And what a year we have had! 

We have:

  • Successfully recruited more adults into roles to support young people in their Scouting
  • Recruited more young people into all Districts in the County
  • Had more positive media stories on TV, radio and in the local press as well as having young people from Nottinghamshire supporting national campaigns
  • Supported more leaders than ever through the adult training scheme and more young leaders through the young leader scheme
  • Seen an increase in the number of awards to our young people, at all levels
  • Had many successful county events including NESST, Monopoly Run, County Flag, County Camp, Gang Show.

All of these things have helped to make Nottinghamshire Scouting stronger and given us something to build on for the next year. I hope that the census you will be completing shortly will reflect (if not improve) on the interim census completed in October.

Thank you to everyone, leaders, commissioners but especially the young people!  You are all wonderful!

And so to the New Year and the new decade.  What are we hoping to achieve for the coming year?  As most of you know, we as a County have been set a number of objectives we have to meet for the coming year. 

  • To increase adult volunteers by 3 – 5%.   - The County Development Group will be meeting early in the New Year to help this to happen.
  • To increase youth membership by 3 – 5% - The programme team are working with your ADCs to help improve the programme at all levels.
  • To reduce waiting lists – Again the County Development Group will be looking at this
  • To increase membership of Network – Justin Fisher is going to be working in the 3 Districts with no Network currently.

There are more but the 4 above are where the team will be concentrating their efforts and where I would like you to concentrate your efforts too.

As I have said many times this is not MY COUNTY it is OUR COUNTY.  The County team are here to support you.  If you need help please ask!

I want Nottinghamshire to go from being a GREAT COUNTY to being the BEST COUNTY.  Let’s do this together. Our young people are the citizens of the future – let’s listen to what they have to say and do something about it.
