THE REAL SNOW PATROL - SCOUT LEADERS TO THE RESCUE

Snow PatrolWednesday 1st December: Last night a team of volunteers from the Nottinghamshire Scouts were mobilised by the Notts Emergency Planning Team to support some of the most vulnerable members of our communities.

The Nottinghamshire Emergency Scout Support Team (NESST for short) is an 'active support unit' of 32 volunteer Scout Leaders from throughout the County who have sprung into action to help the county council, police, fire and health services provide emergency support. The volunteers come from all backgrounds, consisting of doctors, police, construction workers and office staff.

So far the team have been supporting NHS workers in the Mansfield and Sherwood areas to take medicines to vulnerable and elderly people ensuring they have the drugs they need to survive. They have also been towing stranded motorists out of ditches helping them on their way and are currently transporting carers and health workers to visit their clients and patients in the North of the County.

Keith Morris, volunteer team leader said "This is a modern day example of how Scouting contributes to our local communities and helps other people who are in need. We're just an ordinary group of people doing some extra"

Mark Spencer MP for Sherwood said, "This is yet another example of Scouts going above and beyond to do something positive to help other people. I applaud the work of the Nottinghamshire Scouts and know that people in my constituency and Nottinghamshire are truly grateful for their acts of selflessness."

Deputy County Commissioner Matt Rooney said "We are proud of our Scout Active Support units in Nottinghamshire, NESST is doing a fantastic job in supporting people locally. As Scouts we believe strongly in encouraging all our members to play an active and positive role in society. A real example of the big society in action"
