Launch of the County Explorer Belt Challenge 2010
Denmark 1st – 18th August 2010
The Explorer Belt Challenge is:
- A 10-day expedition that brings a real understanding of a different country, its people and way of life
- The challenge of a lifetime
- For those aged 16 – 25 i.e. for Explorer Scouts & Scout Network who will work in small teams of 3 or 4
- The antidote to the package holiday
- Over 100 miles of travel – mainly on foot, horseback or by other similar means
- At least 30 hours travelling time
- 1 x Major Project that lasts about 15 hours
- 10 x Minor Projects lasting about 1 hour each
- Team members must complete training appropriate to the expedition they plan to undertake
- Visit at least 4 towns or villages
- Must not be in wild country
- Usually supported by a team of independent adult Leaders (Core Team)
- Participants keep a notebook or diary during the training and expedition
- Leaders & Participants will have contact options – such as mobile phones.
How Much? £1,750 (This is top-whack estimate hopefully)
Why so much?
Meetings - £100-150+
Training (including weekends away) £250-300+
Insurance - £35
Air Fares - £250-300
Transport - £400+
Additional Equipment/Clothing/Admin/Expenses, etc – £565+
Part of the ethos of an Explorer Belt Challenge expedition is fund-raising. It is the responsibility of every participant to actively take part in fund-raising activities.
With lots of hard fund-raising, etc. that top-whack figure could be considerably reduced.

NOTE: The Explorer Belt Challenge is not a holiday!!
