5th Mansfield Explorers in Spain - November 2008

Canoeing near AlicanteOver the weekend 21st – 24th November 5th Mansfield Sea Scouts and 5th Mansfield Explorer Sea Scout Unit for their fourth year embarked on another whirlwind adventure in Spain. The weekend would see the 4 Explorers, 1 Scout and 5 leaders take on a Kayaking expedition along the coast, some of the most sever rock climbs in Europe and a phenomenal walk with breathtaking scenery.

Aqua Ventura Base11:30 Day 1 after collecting our bags at the airport we were reunited with Jonny our host for the weekend and Joe a Guide leader and long term friend who regularly joins us on this particular trip. We were whisked back to the Aqua-Ventura base (Jonny’s Farm House in the middle of the Spanish mountains) for lunch before we set out on an afternoons climb in some neighbouring mountains.

Sea CanoeingDay 2 and the team take to the open water of the Mediterranean on a kayaking expedition being put to shame by the speed of Olympic champion kayaker Jonas. The sea was incredibly calm and we were able to make fantastic progress on the 26km expedition from Alicante to Villa Joyosa. After a superb meal we headed into Sella the local town in search of a promised fiesta.

Climbing TroisDay 3 and the team embark on another day of rock climbing at Trois, during the day the Scout and Explorers climbed several 3, 4 and 5 level climbs. Some of the younger leaders also went on to start lead climbing. The sun was intense even in November, and after a good session of climbing the team retired to Villa Joyosa for a quick dip in the sea to cool off. Later the Scout and Explorers ventured into the local town of Sella again.

Mountain WalkingOn the final day we followed Jonny into the mountains heading for Finnestratt. The short walk took use over some spectacular mountains and we found a nice pool to cool off in.

Swimming PoolOnce back at base we had a final splash in the pool before heading home after a phenomenal weekend in Spain.
