Newark District Explorers

Newark was the first District to submit articles for this website!

Judging by the number of articles contributed to this website, Newark District seems to be the most active district in the County... do you know any different?

Flintham ESU - An activity orientated unit who meet to suit.
6th Newark ESU (Sea Scouts) - Meet on Fridays. e-mail the Unit.
7th Newark ESU - Meet on Fridays.
9th Newark ESU - Meet on Thursdays.
Coddington ESU - a new Unit meeting in Coddington

More information can be found on the District website

Although there are many Young Leaders helping within the younger sections the District has no specific Young Leader Unit. The District has a Duke of Edinburgh group that meet every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month at Coddington scout headquarters to which every district explorer is invited to join. There are currently two active Silver groups with a new Bronze group due to be formed in September 2007

RN recognition badge

6th Newark pass their RN inspection - November 2008
On a cold and wintery night I found myself at another Scout hut in the County, this time a little twist was about to occur. Just inside the door was Newark's DC, Richard, to give me the low down of the evening. The main hall at Farndon was full of uniformed Scouts, Cub Scouts and Explorer Scouts along with a wide scattering of leaders and they were all spruced up!! Can't be for me can it? No it's actually their 18 month Inspection by the Royal Navy.
After the Admiral had been "Piped aboard" the full inspection began. The Admiral spoke to all of the young people in turn, asking and questioning them on their vast array of badges and listened to their adventures. Nearly an hour passed before he visited many of the bases from flare lighting by the RNLI ( even the ones that didn't light), various presentations, night time navigation by the stars, cooking, splicing and lots more.
Further questioning took place then onto the fun bits. The D.C., the Admiral and a little help from me awarded some long term achievements, Queens Scout Awards (young and old). A different story - a hush hush award - all to be revealed later.
Thank you for the invite it was great to see you gain the recognition you deserve. Only 101 sea Scout units are recognised by the Royal Navy out of 350 Sea Scout groups throughout the Country.
Keep up the great work. Malc
