Steve's Blog - Nov 2008
Hi Everyone!
What a fabulous 8 months it has been since I accepted the role of ACC (10½-25 year olds) in the new County Team. I don’t seem to have stopped.
Malc and I have been busy during that period looking at the Explorer Scout Section and seeking the best way forward. And of course, I’ve been doing the same with the other Sections, especially Scout Network, the section to which you will all hopefully move on to after Explorers, so I want something there for you to carry on your fantastic Scouting.
The Explorer Scout Section continues to flourish under the care of CESL Malc Skelton. An exciting Christmas Theme camp was held in May followed by a Leaders' day in June. Explorer Scouts also turned out in strength to help promote "Kids Outdoors in Nottinghamshire" in Nottingham's Old Market Square in August. Some of them (photos) even appeared in a later copy of "Scouting". Several Explorers took part in the County Flag competition, plus, Explorers have also camped, travelled abroad and taken an active part in DofE activities. The Young Leaders' Scheme continues to flourish. The County Explorer Scout website has now recorded over 7,750 visits since its launch last year and continues to receive regular news items and updates.
With a new Coordinator (Chris Spencer) at the helm, a new-look County Flag competition was held at the end of September. For the first time, this was also opened up to Cubs and Scout Network.
Don't forget that we have the International Peace Light coming to Nottinghamshire this Christmas. We do need your help in getting this light distributed.
The County Team are now busy looking towards the future, in fact as far as 2011. Already many dates have been set for 2009 including the County Camp to be held at Walesby in May, Nottingham Monopoly Live camp in July and the County Flag Competition in November. A County DofE Open Group will be launched in the New Year and an Explorer Belt Challenge for 16-25 year olds is being held in 2010. If you missed the launch evening for the EB Challenge, you should find information about it on this website, but please hurry and get your application in because applications are already coming in and a closing date of Friday 16th January 2009 has been set. Additionally, there will be another Explorer Scout Leaders' Day in 2009.
Thank you for everything that you do. Malc and I greatly appreciate it.
Our future looks exciting so let's continue to make Scouting the place to be for our young people, be they Scouts, Explorer Scouts or members of the Scout Network, with the activities that they want to participate in. I find it the best way to boost the membership of your Section.
Have a super Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Cheers! Steve ACC(10½- 25 year olds)
