Walking Group Leader Award

This award covers leadership skills and group management issues that are needed to lead a party of novices on open countryside, easy hills, and moors e.g. Dartmoor, Peak District, or Brecon Beacons. This is a National Governing body-training course and is now a pre-requisite for gaining a Scout authorisation in Terrain one.  It is a residential course for three days in the Peak District; this course is run by Thornbridge Outdoors

Mountain Leader Award


The ML Award (summer) qualifies the candidate to lead a group of hill walkers anywhere in the British Isles under summer conditions. The Award covers skills such as group management, navigation, security on steep ground, camp craft, access and conservation, weather forecasting, emergency procedures and personal equipment. These courses are all Residential in Wales provided by Plas Y Brenin, the National Mountaineering centre.

Rock Climbing & Walking Day

This is a half day Rock Climbing and half day Hill walking. For this activity we can accept groups of up to ten participants and two groups can be booked on each day, Ideal for Scouts & Explorers.

Rock Climbing Day

This is a full day Rock Climbing for up to 12 older Scouts or Explorers. This is a long day spent climbing a variety of routes at one venue; groups need to be keen to climb all day. £5 each

Single Pitch Climbing Supervisor Award

The SPA provides training and assessment on how to organise and supervise safe, effective and enjoyable sessions for relative novices on single pitch crags both in and outdoors. Ideal for anyone with personal climbing experience and is involved with taking Scouts climbing. The courses are run by Thornbridge Outdoors and is the National Governing Body award for single pitch Rock Climbing.

Adult Leaders Climbing Weekend

The activities team are running a rock climbing weekend at the Roaches in Staffordshire on the. Any Adults who want to take part should contact either Steve Day or Chris Smith.  This course is specifically aimed at the Scout Network.

Green Field Day

We will be running a training day in Green Field skills for those wanting to upgrade their Nights away permit, we will also be offering the chance to do a wild camping option,

Assessments for Activity Permits

For those wanting activity permits in hill walking, rock climbing, canoeing, sailing and power boating you will need to complete a practical assessment. These can be arranged by contacting the County Office.

Mountain Biking

For Scouts/Explorers/Network. Routes can be chosen to suit the ability of the group. This is for a full day Mountain Biking locally in Sherwood Forest with a proven provider who will provide instruction and bikes.

BMX Biking

The BMX Biking has proved a real hit so we are offering this again, for those of you on the County Camp you would have seen Rich Camm on the main field with the small bikes. So we are offering Monday evenings at Bulwell, Nottingham from 7 -9pm and cost £5 each, which includes hire of bikes, instructor & safety gear.

To secure a booking a completed Booking Form, together with relevant payment, MUST be sent to: - County Resource Centre, Trinity House, Unit One, Robey Close, Linby, Nottinghamshire, NG15 8AA

An acknowledgement and receipt of the booking will be provided by return. Four weeks prior to the activity joining instructions and Health forms will be sent out to participants or group leaders as appropriate.
